In anticipation of next month's release of Fedora 17 we have created a limited set of images to help participate in the beta program and explore the new options and features. Currently there are desktop and CLI images for VMWare, KVM and Xen and a CLI XVA template for XCP/XenServer. These are all 64-bit versions.

Fedora 17 x86_64 (BETA)

WARNING: Some users will not be able to boot the xen and/or xva templates due to a bug in Fedora 17's glibc that appears to conflict with some CPUs when run under Xen PV. There are no known workarounds at this time.

UPDATE (2012-05-14): The latest glibc has been patched to fix the Xen domU issue mentioned above. The CLI Xen image and XVA template have been rebuilt. These will probably be the last builds prior to the production release on May 22nd (which may be delayed again by upstream).

Ubuntu has released the latest "Long Term Support (LTS)" version of their Linux distribution, code-named Precise Pangolin. The SolusVM Xen PV templates are now ready in desktop and CLI versions for both architectures.

The kernel inside the template is vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-virtual from the linux-image-virtual package. The templates are bootable using pygrub or xen PVOPS but will not boot under the SolusVM EL5 2.6.18 kernel. Please read the kernel howto for a summary of your options (scroll to the end).

We have lightweight CLI images for Xen, VMWare and KVM in 32 and 64-bit versions and also an XVA template for XenServer/XCP (64-bit only as usual). Additionally we have Xfce 4.8 desktop images available for Xen, VMWare and KVM in 32 and 64-bit versions.

The SolusVM Xen PV templates are undergoing testing and will be ready this week. (Note: our KVM images are not intended for deployment on SolusVM, which as of this writing does not have a templating mechanism for KVM. This feature is planned - or at least rumored - for version 2 of the control panel but we don't have any details.)

Scientific Linux released version 5.8 today. Lightweight 64-bit images/templates are available for Xen, VMWare, KVM and XCP versions. For the first time we have added Gnome desktop images for Scientific 5.

In anticipation of the next LTS release of Ubuntu we have created a set of images to help participate in the beta program and explore the new options and features. At the moment the downloads include 64-bit "lightweight" images for KVM, Xen, VMWare, XCP and SolusVM Xen. There are also Xfce desktop images for KVM, Xen and VMWare. When the production release happens in late April we will add 32-bit templates as well. Feedback is welcome!

CentOS released version 5.8 on March 8th. Minimal and Gnome Desktop templates are available for Xen, KVM, VMWare and SolusVM for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. A minimal XCP template is also available for x86_64 only.

Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS was released on Feb 16th. We have re-revved the lightweight and desktop Lucid images and templates with the exception of SolusVM Xen PV templates.

Scientific Linux released version 6.2 earlier this week. Minimal images/templates are available for Xen, VMWare and KVM in 32 and 64-bit versions. We have x86_64 XVA and SolusVM Xen PV templates as well.

Downloads of 64-bit Gentoo Linux are now available for Xen, VMWare, KVM, SolusVM Xen PV and XCP. As with our Arch templates this version does not correspond to an official release upstream (rolling distros are less release oriented). Informally we are planning bi-yearly "releases" of Gentoo in January and July. x86 (32-bit) Gentoo images will no longer be built due to a lack of demand.

Downloads of 64-bit Arch Linux (Xfce Desktop and CLI versions) are now available for Xen, VMWare and KVM. We have also created a SolusVM XEN PV template with the caveat that ArchLinux is not explicitly supported by the control panel. Arch implements a rolling release and this version does not correspond to an official release upstream (which tend to be very sporadic). Informally we are planning bi-yearly releases of Arch in January and July.
